This is by far the most essential piece of equipment. However, there are six essentials every adventure racer should have. So, now that you are committed, what do you bring? If you are even the slightest of an outdoors person, you may have some equipment hiding in the back of your closet, basement, or attic. It is the experience of a lifetime, and not one you will soon forget. Your spirit and emotions are pushed to the limit as you search for balance between the decisions you may think are right, and those your team may feel are the best. Your body and mind are tested as you ascend and descend mountains. You not only need stamina but also wit and ingenuity.Īs you race, orienteering checkpoints are scattered across miles upon miles of woodlands, waterways, deserts, or valleys. Race lengths vary from as little as three short hours to as long as three sleep-depriving weeks. ![]() ![]() Participants may race solo or with a team consisting of two to four people. It’s a competitive endurance sport encompassing three legs on an unmarked course: paddling, mountain biking, and trekking. Hiking, backpacking, and most other outdoor activities aren’t usually competitive, but for those looking to get their athletic juices flowing, there is another option that encompasses all of these passions with the spirit of sport.Īdventure racing came to the United States from New Zealand in the 1980s. The Sport race is a shorter version of all the fun. Teams may have a support person who will have access to the racers at each transition area. Unless you are very fast, it is unlikely you will need to plot.īecause of the limitations on the number of allowed racers (50) we will supply all boats for the race. Each racer will be allowed a 5-gallon food bucket which will be available at 2 locations along the course.Teams will need to transport this bag with them on boat legs. Teams will be able to have a paddle bag that will be transported to the beginning of boat legs.Racers will need to transport this bag during bike legs. Racers can have a small bag attached to their bike.Bikes will be transported (via Uhaul) for racers.Racers will start and finish at the Deviant Wolfe Brewery.It is expected that teams will be able to clear the course with the first teams arriving around at DW 22 hours into the race.īikes, boats, and gear bins will be transported to transition areas during the race.
